A very short summary about the book.

Book cover

After hearing Kelly Starrett on several podcasts I follow, I knew I had to get my hands on his latest book, Built to Move. I’ve been into health, movement, and fitness for years — cycling (especially gravel), SUP surfing, and trying to live as actively and freely as possible. As we age, it becomes clear that movement isn’t just about performance or looking good — it’s about independence, vitality, and joy.

That’s exactly the spirit of Built to Move.

A Health Manual Disguised as a Mobility Book

The book lays out ten essential habits — what the authors call “Vital Signs” — designed to keep us moving pain-free for as long as possible. These aren’t workouts or training plans. They’re basic, accessible, daily actions that add up to long-term freedom and healthspan. Think: squatting, walking, getting up from the floor without using your hands, hanging, mobilizing, sleeping better, and — surprisingly — a lot of attention to your environment.

Each habit comes with a simple test to assess your current state. No overcomplication. Just honest, direct feedback.

Nothing New — But That’s the Point
