Is the Apple Watch any good for cycling
If you’re in a hurry and don’t have time to read the pros and cons: Yes, it is. It’s good, and can become great. (keep on to know why)
If you use the Apple Watch there is no reason to take it off for cycling apart from avoiding getting it destroyed or damaged during a crash, or hitting something (specially, mountain biking or gravel) but the real question is: does it offer any good value wearing it during your rides?
Let’s start. Since the Apple Watch 2 presentation I’ve been considering it for tracking my sports. I like to track almost everything. I like crunching numbers, statistics, graphics. That’s what engineers are supposed to do. But a lack of reviews for that purpose and the appearance of a delicate and expensive object added to a lack of robust original bands held me back for quite a long time.
I searched for review of mountain bikers using it, but didn’t find many.
So after the launch of the Watch Series 4 I decided to give it a go. I bought the Apple Watch Series 4 in 40mm with the sport band:
