The Power of Mindbody: My summary of Dr. Sarno’s “The Divided Mind” book

It all started with a personal quest to understand the deeper connections between my mind and body. For months, I’d been battling recurring back pain, something that seemed to flare up at the worst possible moments. Like many, I’d tried everything — physical therapy, massages, even changing my workspace setup — and I improved a lot, but I still had some issues.

I’d read about Dr. Sarno’s approach several times, and it was on the back of my mind, but it was a tweet (or X or whatever) from someone I don’t know, claiming the benefits of his work, that ignited my final decision to read it.

The book’s premise was simple yet revolutionary: many chronic pains stem not from physical issues but from our mind’s unresolved emotional tensions, a concept he calls Tension Myositis Syndrome (TMS).
