Long story short: not much.

Want the long story?

New Year, New Goals.

I like to define goals for business and for myself, goals that stretch my abilities and improve me and my surroundings, but at the same time I do not want to obsess too much to avoid them affecting my family and social life.

I’m no alcoholic. I just like to drink a beer after riding my bike, or while cooking, a glass of wine for dinner now and then and the occasional shot of whiskey those winter Sunday afternoons.

I just enjoy those moments

So decided to go for a #cleanjanuary. A full month totally free of alcohol. Both as a challenge and to understand the benefits of eliminating alcohol.

What I learned?

It was easier than expected. I’m not a heavy drinker, but fully enjoy those moments. I was expecting it to be more difficult but it wasn’t.

Alcohol-free beer is not that bad. Initially my idea was to avoid alcohol-free beverages, but I tried a couple of non alcoholic beers and while one of them was disgusting (Moritz), the other one (Damm) was quite good.

Have heard about alcohol reducing the quality of sleep, but I didn’t notice an improvement of my sleep metrics from my Pillow App data.

Alcohol is also known for the negative effects on weight and while I lost about 300–500 grams during January, I relate it to eliminating milk from my morning coffee for a purer intermittent fasting (previously I used to fast but adding mill to the morning coffee which in theory breaks the fasting period)

All in all, a good experiment and challenge, but no important conclusion other than occasional alcohol consumption, if a pleasure, is far from bad for your overall health and attitude.

What I did February 1st? Enjoy a beer. Just one.
